The Aluminium Secondary Glazing,
Horizontal Sliding
Our horizontal sliding secondary glazing can be from 400mm to 4900mm wide and
between 400mm and 1980mm high. The panels slide on either wheels or hard
wearing nylon skids. In the closed position the panels click and latch onto
the outer frame. The secondary comes in white, brown or silver colours as
standard, or we can colour it in any of 200+ RAL colours. A wide range glazing
is available including double glazed (Heavy Duty system), acoustic and K.
Horizontal sliding secondary is available with between 2 and 5 panels.

Vertical Sliding
Ideal for Sash Windows, our vertical sliding (VS) panels are slimline and look
great. Our ‘Tilt Back Balanced’ panels tilts in for access to your existing
windows and to aid cleaning. We also offer a non-tilting version for
situations where the tilt is not required - such as schools. Our most
economical VS is the non-balanced, non-tilting panel. Our ‘Heavy Duty’ system
can take a double glazed unit for maximum results.

Hinged
Our hinged secondary comes in either single or double panel configurations.
The panels open using either friction hinges or butt hinges - with butt hinges
giving the maximum clear opening. Friction hinged panels have the advantage
that they can be top hung in addition to side hung. A wide variety of glazing
options are available for energy saving and noise reduction.

replaced when done. Flyscreens panels are available which can be used in the
summer months instead of the glass panel.Read

Fixed Panels
Our fixed panels are super slimline and extremely affordable. They simply
attach to your existing windows and can be fitted in a matter of minutes. They
have a built in woolpile on the back of the frame to form a tight seal with

Are You New to Secondary Glazing ?
Where Is It Used ?
- Busy areas where traffic noise is a nuisance - even when double glazing is already fitted.
- Listed properties and properties within conservation areas are ideal where you are unable to modify the existing external windows.
- Leasehold properties where changing the existing windows may be uneconomical.
- Any window that needs noise reduction and/or draught reduction.
What Does It Look Like ?
Usually they are white, although optionally we can paint them any one of 200 colours. They are made from durable aluminium so they will not rot and require very little maintenance. As aluminium is a strong material the frames can be made slim so that it is less obtrusive. They come with covering trims so you don't see any of your fixing screws and the units are often pre-drilled for easier installation. Also, our secondary glazing can be curved to form arched secondary glazing windows.
How To Reduce Heating Bills
With heating costs rising all the time the sooner you fit secondary glazing, the sooner you will start benefitting. Our secondary glazing can have ordinary Float or Toughened glass specified, or for even better thermal performance - Pilkington 'K' low e glass. By adding the extra pane of glass in addition to your existing windows - draughts and heat loss are dramatically reduced.
How To Reduce Noise
The best way to reduce noise is to fit our secondary glazing and specify either Laminated glass or Acoustic glass. These types of glass are thicker and heavier than ordinary glass. For extreme circumstances we have a heavy duty system that can take a double glazed unit.
Is Secondary Glazing Just For The Winter Months ?
No - most of our secondary glazing will accept flyscreen panels for use in the summer - giving you year round benefits.
About Secondary Glazing
Secondary glazing involves adding an extra slimline window in addition to your existing windows. Our secondary is made from slimline, durable aluminium and we have been supplying this trusted and proven product since 1985. It is virtually maintenance free and will give many years of trouble free service. Secondary glazing comes in many styles and colours to match your existing windows to blend in with property. Curtains and blinds remain unaffected most of the time.
How To Choose - Overview of Knights glass Aluminium Secondary Glazing
There are two considerations when choosing your secondary glazing:
First is to look at the existing window and note how it opens and see if there are bars going vertically or horizontally through the window. If you have a sash window that slides up and down then the sash window will have a horizontal bar half way down the window. In this instance our vertical sliding secondary glazing can be made to match these windows - with the horizontal bar in the same place as that on the existing window. With the bars on both the existing and secondary windows aligned - the secondary glazing blends in with the existing window. We have fixed units, lift out units, horizontally sliding units, vertical sliding units and side hinged units - so that we can match any existing window.
Secondly, you will need to decide how you will be fixing the secondary glazing. You can either mount it to the existing window, or mount it a small distance away from the existing window - attaching it to the "reveal". Ideally you should mount it away from the existing window, this allows room for any handles on the existing window and also creates an air gap which helps both acoustic and thermal properties.
The frame around the edge of the secondary glazing can be either wooden (referred to as "Subframe" or just the raw aluminium (referred to as "Economy"). Subframe is generally best for residential fitment and Economy is best suited to large contracts where it's lower cost can be significant. The wood of our Subframe system can be MDF, Tulip or Luan. The Subframe system is easy to mount, looks neat and comes with trims to cover fixing screws. Tulip or Luan wood frames can be stained or painted - ideal if you have, for example, dark brown window frames. MDF framed secondary is the cheapest of the Subframe system and is easy to trim and takes paint very well. We also have a Heavy Duty secondary system that can take a double glazed sealed unit.
